Registered Nurse -OB

Responsibilities:

Contributes to organization of department, cleaning of unit, processing of required paperwork, and documentation for processes.

Admits patients to unit by orienting patient to room and introducing unit personnel. Takes vital signs (e. g, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, etc.). Monitors patients' vital signs. Interviews patients to obtain health history, allergies, current use of medications, and documents findings. Ensures all admission documentation has been completed.

Performs physical assessment of patients upon admission and according to protocol. Assesses and documents patients physical, psychological and social needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on the Unit. Reviews other available diagnostic data (e. g., laboratory values, radiology reports, transferring unit reports, etc.) and incorporates into assessment process. Identifies, communicates and documents significant physiological and behavioral findings.

Places patient on appropriate Nursing Care Plan based on initial assessment of patient and with input from patient/family. Establishes outcome goals based on nature of admitting diagnoses and assessment data. Nursing Care Plans include nursing interventions necessary to achieve outcome goals. Continually reviews and revises Nursing Care Plans based on evaluation of patient responses to nursing interventions. Implements appropriate protocols, including core measures and patient safety goals.

Accurately interprets and promptly implements physicians orders according to policy.

Prepares and administers prescribed medications orally, intramuscularly, via IV solutions, etc. Monitors patients response to medications, treatments, and therapies.

Assists physicians during procedures and diagnostics, as needed either at bedside or in various ancillary areas according to established guidelines.

Demonstrates clinical competency by performing or assisting care givers with all types of routine and complex patient care procedures and tasks per competency skill checklist.

Collaborates with physicians and other health disciplines to coordinate the delivery of care and monitor progress of patient. At any transfer of care, reports all significant information, related to assigned patients.

Provides effective health teaching to patients and families; assists patient and families to obtain knowledge about illness, injury prevention and treatment through appropriate and timely patient education and document appropriately.

Assists in training and orientation, as a resource and/or preceptor for new employees and nursing students and help maintain the competency based education/training records. Provides feedback to employees and Unit Manager of employees performances; and is a knowledgeable Unit resource.

Maintains high level of professional knowledge and skill through self-directed learning and participation in organization continuing education programs. Shares such knowledge openly with peers. Attends mandatory educational programs, in-services and meetings as required by Pekin Hospital. Actively seeks out information by attending Unit Meetings, completing assigned mandatory education and reading communication memos.

Responds to patients call lights promptly; performs hourly rounding; handles patients needs with respect and sensitivity according to Hospital policies, procedures, and patient care standards or refer appropriately.

Participates on Hospital Committees as assigned.

Possess knowledge of fetal monitoring including appropriate monitoring technique, interpretation, and intrauterine resuscitation. Successfully completes yearly fetal monitoring competency. Uses NICHD terminology for documentation.

Provides care to laboring patient both physical and emotional.

Possess ability to care for patient receiving anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery.

Assesses outpatient and performs treatment according to physician orders.

Able to provide care to surgical patents both obstetric and gynecological related.

Maintains practices according to Baby Friendly guidelines.

Performs assessment of social needs of patients and contacts Case Manager for proper referrals, as needed.

Assists with stabilization of newborn including but not limited to resuscitation, oxygen administration, monitoring, IV Therapy, blood draws, and transfer to tertiary care center.

Provides newborn care including required testing, i. e., neonatal screening, hearing, bilirubin screening, pulse ox, and car seat challenge test.

Responds appropriately when alarms sound; silences alarms only as necessary for patient care and returns to audible when done.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.

Maintains required CEU s as outlined by the State of Illinois.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Current RN license to practice in the State of Illinois. CPR Certification requiredACLS Certification required within one year of hire Completion of NRP Competency within one year of hire



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
