Clinical Lab Scientist

Overview
A professionally trained highly knowledgeable individual who performs a variable number of tasks pertaining to pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes for wavered, moderately complex and highly complex procedures on body fluids and tissue to detect and measure components of health or disease. The incumbent ensures that accurate results are reported in a timely manner to aide the physician in the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the patient.
ResponsibilitiesAssumes the responsibility for the correct collection, integrity of specimens being tested and prompt report of results to physicians, nursing service or pathologist. Evaluates validity of results obtained. Documents critical value's information to monitor reporting. Documents issues with performance Improvement formFollows laboratory policy for quality control and helps solve quality control problems by performing maintenance and troubleshooting recalibration if necessary. Reports to the supervisor what is unresolved. Documents on Action logs and QC charts.Performs all of the tests of a generalist, working and maintaining competency in the areas of responsibility.Assists Medical Technologist (Charge), Medical Technologist (Staff), General Supervisor, and Laboratory Director in writing and maintaining of Laboratory manuals and annual review of all pertinent department manuals and hospital/department safety manuals.Utilizes information systems to increase efficiency and maintain Billing and HIPAA compliance.Assists in keeping sufficient supplies on hand.Performs other duties as requested or assigned.Trains students (job shadows, ICC, ISU, and medical students). Documents training of orientation on competency sheets for new employees. Participates in peer review process.Adheres to safety rules of Infection Control and chemical safety by wearing personal protective equipment for appropriate tasks. Daily cleans work area, counters, keyboards and phones.Demonstrates dependable attendance, is punctual at assigned work area at scheduled times. Wears ID badge at all times for patient safety and Kronos entries.Shows work adaption in scheduling, including departmental coverage for shift or job, committee participation, additional duties of Infection Control, CAP, cleaning of centrifuges/refrigerators, off-hour registrations, etc.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
BS degree, MLS or MT registry, eligibility, or equivalent.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
MLS, MT (ASCP) registry or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
None.
SKILLS
Concentrated at times - must have demonstrated above-average judgment, technical skill, discretion and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Must have demonstrated by action and attitude the willingness to work for optimum patient care.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate with individuals with a varied education background. Must have the ability to work closely with patients, physicians, staff, and families.


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
