Respiratory Therapist-Registered

Shift: Part-time /24 hrs per week 7A-7P
Summary:
As a health care professional, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, managing the processes involved in performing respiratory therapy, ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration and airway management
Responsibilities
PERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY, NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY, AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.
Accurately interpret and execute physician orders
Demonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's need
Demonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needsDemonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosagesPerforms patient educationPerforms all duties in an efficient and timely manner
Notify leader of respiratory care, nursing supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issues
Document all medication and patient care errorsUses protective equipment appropriately
Perform intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned
Practices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safetyAlert and responsive to all alarms/call lightsFollows proper hand washing and infection control between patients and proceduresPerform testing in a manner that ensures accurate results.
Maintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area.
Performs oxygen roundsPerforms accurate DAU and BAT testing as assigned.
Responds to all pages and requests in a timely manner
Perform home care instructions and arrange for home oxygen, nebulizer, and/or suction equipment
Responds to emergency situations, RRT calls and codes immediately
Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situationsEnsures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals
Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.Performs patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.
PERFORMS VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE
Knowledgeable of all modes of ventilation and a weaning modalities
Responds promptly to urgent needsUses protective equipment appropriately
Actively participates in patient rounds with physicians if assigned
Performs ventilator checks every 2 hours and PRNSets appropriate ventilator alarms within recommended parameters
Ability to educate students and other health professionals about ventilator functions
Documents ventilator settings and patient information accurately
Patient advocate
Practices appropriate patient assessment skills to evaluate patient needs
Assertively contacts physicians to improve patient care
Actively contacts physicians concerning ventilator settings
Collaborates with appropriate healthcare worker concerning patient care issues
Regularly sets-up, verifies proper function, operates, and monitors ventilators
BIPAP and CPAPMAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRY
Complete and concise documentation of all therapy, ventilator, and oxygenComplete and concise documentation on all internal forms
Complete and accurate charge entry daily
Complete and accurate information on all ECGs
Perform editing of ECGs accurately when assigned
Accurate documentation on all diagnostic tests
ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Learns the functions of all new equipment
Learns new proceduresKnowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures
Completes all mandatory education within the stated timeframe
Attends educational offerings to validate skillsMaintain current knowledge of all equipment
Maintain current license
Maintain current credentials
Acts as a resource person for othersParticipates in clinical instruction of students and other healthcare workers
Qualifications
Education:
Associate's Degree in a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program is required.
Work Experience:
1-3 years of experience in/with skills in respiratory therapy, ventilator management, electrocardiogram, oxygen administration and airway management.
A basic knowledge of Pulmonary and Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology is required.
License and Certification Additional Information:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Licensed by the State of Illinois (IDFPR) as a Respiratory Care Practitioner within 6 months of hire.
CPRCompletion of ACLS within 6 months of hire.
Completion of NRP within 6 months of hire (excludes PRN staff).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
