Position Objective
Oversee actuarial functions within Pekin Life Insurance Company in such a manner as to achieve stated profitability goals while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations. Perform and/or oversee product development and pricing for all product offerings, including traditional life, universal life, deferred annuities, and Medicare Supplement insurance. Provide executive management recommendations regarding the product portfolio, product performance, and other related business insights. Coordinate the valuation efforts of outside contracted firms for all insurance inforce with the company.
Job Responsibilities
Participate in all aspects of new product development, including product characteristic development, rate setting to meet company objectives, and negotiation of reinsurance treaty terms
Stay abreast of regulatory changes that impact product pricing and be proactive in ensuring that the company remains compliant with such regulations
Manage interest rate spreads for interest-sensitive products
Develop and maintain actuarial reporting systems, including periodic management reports and executive management dashboards
Document and maintain actuarial procedures and work-papers
Develop and maintain appropriate controls to maintain data integrity
Assist senior management in analysis and projects as needed
Support operational areas of the Company as needed
Coordinate the efforts of external vendor(s) in setting reserves for life and health product lines and all related report filings

Education and Experience
Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related field
Attainment of a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation; or a combination of an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and work experience that provides for a similar knowledge base
Current Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries
7+ years of relevant work experience
Experience performing product pricing and review of existing and new products
Experience managing interest rate spreads for all lines of business required
Experience reviewing reserves for life and health product lines encouraged
Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel
Ability to create and maintain accurate actuarial pricing, reports and analysis
Must be self-directed and effective working independently, yet equally comfortable contributing in a team environment
Must have advanced problem solving, reasoning, and analytical skills
Skilled at both written and verbal communication to audiences of all technical abilities
Ability to meet established guidelines
Skilled at executing and carrying out company directives
Ability to synthesize, write, diagnose, collect, extrapolate and review data
Ability to correspond and collaborate with both peers and leaders
Ability to handle pressure and stress in a dynamic and changing environment
Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks while continually meeting deadlines

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
